Haley Zale - Bio

Bio

Haley Zale caught the theatre bug at age six when she auditioned for the role of The White Rabbit in "Alice in Wonderland" at All Of Us Express Children's Theatre in Lansing, Michigan. Too young to play The White Rabbit, she entertained her family and friends as a delicious Oyster in the chorus.

From ages six to sixteen, Haley was a member of the Image Association.  She began modeling at local shopping malls in Back-to-School and Bridal fashion shows. Having been in a school production of "Don't Rock the Boat" in 7th grade, Haley realized how much she enjoyed musical theatre.  In high school, she was excited to be in an 800 seat auditorium in Grand Ledge, Michigan.  Being a chorus member in "Brigadoon" was exhilarating.  The following year in "Anything Goes" Haley worked her way into the Dancing Angel Chorus, realizing how difficult it is to sing and simultaneously dance!  The following year Haley was cast as Gertie Cummings in "OKLAHOMA!".  Now at age 16, ten years after her first stage play, an audition for the same children's theatre would prove to be life changing.

Auditioning for All Of Us Express Children's Theatre's production of "The 12 Dancing Princesses" Haley met directors Len Kluge and Jeff Magnuson, who were scouting for their upcoming production of "The Children's Hour" by Lillian Hellman.  She was cast as Mary Tilford and would be performing at Spotlight Theatre, a well known regional theatre that used to house Boarshead Theatre, a former Equity house in Lansing.

Rehearsing for "The Children's Hour" and eventually becoming the youngest member of the Spotlight Theatre Method Acting Workshop would open the doors to a new style of acting.  The Method, as derived from Lee Strasberg, laid the foundation for the weekly workshop.  Used to big expressions and trying to reach the back row of an 800 seat auditorim, Haley was amazed to discover acting from the inside out.  Suddenly the reality of a character became a huge challenge and one she would work to continually understand.

After seven years of studying with the Workshop, Haley continued her education in New York City at age 22.   With the help of Len Kluge, Haley auditioned and was accepted to the oldest acting conservatory school in the United States, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts.  Shortly after graduation, Haley landed a role in the premiere season of The Chenango River Theatre, a new Equity house in upstate New York.  Discovering the beauty of the rolling hills and the treasure of the theatre, Haley would return for many more seasons, acting and directing children's theatre classes.

Wanting to give the film and television industry a try, Haley was cast in her first New York indie film "Smoking with Abe Lincoln" in 2009.  That began her drive to understand the realm of acting on camera.  Haley is now focused on learning camera technique and continuing to grow her career in New York City.
